Everyone is asking in PTCL topic about this so instead of posting information about this there again and again. Here's a topic for these values.
You can check these values by logging into your modem. These show the line stats - condition of the line in other words i.e. how good is your modem able to signal DSLAM at exchange. The values are being given below. For some DSL might work perfectly even if some values are not optimal but it depends a lot of many conditions.
If your line stats are bad and you are facing DSL problems like disconnection, unsyn and speed problems then file a complaint on 1218 for a Noisy Telephone Line and get it fixed. It might also happen if your line has bad joints.
Although what is monitored and the exact name may be different depending on manufacturer, the overall information is pretty much the same. Below are some of the common terms and measurements used to judge line quality. Remember these are not hard numbers but simply a generalization of line statistics:
SN Margin/Noise Margin/SNR (AKA Signal to Noise Margin or Signal to Noise Ratio)
Relative strength of the DSL signal to Noise ratio. 6dB is generally the lowest dB manufactures specify in order for the modem to be able to synch. In some instances interleaving can help raise the noise margin to an acceptable level. Generally speaking, as overall bandwidth increases, your signal to noise ratio decreases. So a customer that upgrades from 1.5 to 6.0 service will typically see a corresponding decrease in the signal to noise ratio. The higher the number the better for this measurement.
6dB or below is bad and will experience no synch or intermittent synch problems
7dB-10dB is fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions
11dB-20dB is good with no synch problems
20dB-28dB is excellent
29dB or above is outstanding
Line Attenuation
Measure of how much the signal has degraded between the DSLAM and the modem. Maximum signal loss recommendation is usually about 60dB. One of the biggest factors affecting line attenuation is distance from the DSLAM. Generally speaking, bigger distances mean higher attenuation. The lower the dB the better for this measurement.
20dB and below is outstanding
20dB-30dB is excellent
30dB-40dB is very good
40dB-50dB is good
50dB-60dB is poor and may experience connectivity issues
60dB or above is bad and will experience connectivity issues

Hey!
Please excuse me if i am asking something that is already been covered, coz i tried to search for it, and dint find anything related. I am using PTCL' 1MB connection, download and upload speeds both are fine. I want to check "line attenuation" values and i am completely unable to find anything like line attenuation under model control panel. I am using ZXDSL 831D (one in white color). I was wondering if someone else who got this modem or who knows how to check line attenuation values with this modem can help me out. Appreciate your help.

1) Make sure you are using a filter for Telephone line - this is must. Filter/Splitter is not just needed for telephone when doing a call or receiving a call but also if your phone has CLI and its taking power from the line it self. I have checked this - phone with CLI taking power directly from line instead of batteries will effect your noise margin if you connect it without filter/splitter.
2) Remove the filter, and line from telephone, connect the line directly to modem and then see the noise margin
3) If you are using home wiring - don't, get the PTCL dropwire directly to the room where you have placed modem
4) Patches in drop wire?
5) Complain for a noisy line on 1218 if there's static in your line
See the stats of people around you using DSL from same exchange and same pole of PTCL.

I have found that not using a filter decreases sync issues and results in higher negotiated speeds; lower attenuation and higher SNR margin. This is especially true if you are at a significant distance from the exchange.
