So is there anyway to keep the modem powered on without any disconnection or switching the power source.

You could try making a contraption like described here http://www.instructa...onverter/#step1 and route it to your modem...though I have no idea if the USB port would be able to give enough power to your particular modem. Probably not a good idea to mess around with that stuff unless you know a bit about electronics.
Getting one of those small dry battery UPS's is probably your best option.

Is it 12V?

solutions are AA battery powered Modems on amazon only Micro UPSs for such needs or USB powered modems which are usually for 3G and wifi networks

if modem adapter is of 12v then u can use 12V motorcycle battery to operate, but if the adapter is 9v then still u need 12V Battery and 12V to 9V converter circuit this circuit simply contain 1 fixed regulator (7809) IC(use atleast 1 ampere current IC) and a small capacitor, any student of University can design this circuit.
But I am not a uni student, though I have an interest in electronic but clearly I am not capable of making such setup on my own, but I am confident if I were to be instructed, I can make it.
And yes the out put of my 4 port PTCL DSL modem ZTE 831 CII (blue one) is 12V and 1.0A. I was also thinking to have some sort of better system like laptop for the modem.
wait... can I somehow use/modify laptop's battery to use it with modem?
Cause the my laptop's battery says output power 19 Volts and 4.62A

All modems uses 5V only
solutions are AA battery powered Modems on amazon only Micro UPSs for such needs or USB powered modems which are usually for 3G and wifi networks
Yaar that will become different fatigue ....

This is simplest method, there are better charging techniques but I didn't mention due to complexity.
You need to buy a small 12V battery, rest I can help you.

A simple 12V small battery connected to your DSL modem would serve the purpose. Your 12V modem adapter should be able to charge it as well.

No I am listening cause I want the modem to stay on no matter what. but how will the battery recgarge it self? I mean i want it to be like laptop battery cause have hooked up laptop to ac power so when electricity is available, it recharges while staying powered on and utilize that power later on when .... you know what

don't modify Laptop Battery, simply use motorcycle Battery with rating of 3AH or 3.5AH, it gives u nearly about 2.5 to 3 hours backup
So which battery do you recommend?

Tell your little brother to do paddle cycle on standby (until light come back) and connect cycle dynamo wires to your adsl modem with using a 12V socket...

True, but that would generate fluctuating power which may not good for the propose... you know if he gets tired and starts paddling slower ....

Else, use 12V and 6V batteries of same current rating (7-10Ah maybe for longer run time when light goes for 2-3 hours) and use a LM7812 (or LM317 with appropriate resistors) IC with some capacitors on input and output to drop the voltage to a constant 12VDC. You can use a laptop charger (19.5V typical output, 21V preferred) to charge the batteries. Make sure to attach a large enough metallic plate to the TO-220 package ICs to allow heat to dissipate.

I need my PTCL DSL modem to stay on with the laptop in case of power outage. I don't wanna buy a UPS cause that would be pointless in the presence of laptop.

I don't think its pointless, because in these hot summer days you also need a fan to work while using laptop/computer. So its better to buy a UPS, it will run your energy saver bulbs, fans and your modem as well, or you can also charge your laptop/mobiles in case of emergency.

spare battery with jumper cables
DC to AC inverter This would easily available in any car accessories store
-1 attach your jumpers with spare battery to Car installed battery and start your Car and leave it for some minutes..
-2 now remove jumpers and then attach DCtoAC inverter to spare charged battery and plug your modem power adpater to it
this setup will provide you power for least 2 hours (depend on your battery charge)
If you can afford ACtoDC inverter then you won't need car jumpers things....

I am out of city and will be back after 2 days. I can make a practical thing/fixture and take some pictures to show you what and how to do. You need to wait a little
Your battery will be charged by the DSL modem's adapter, you will not need to remove it and charge it separately, this system will be just like a laptop running on AC, when power fails it will switch to battery.
As a side note, don't mess around with Laptop batteries, these are Lithium Ion batteries and needs very special kind of charging circuits.

That would be awesome!
And No, I will not mess with the batteries and take your time I will be waiting....

Thanks for the input but that won't be practical for long term use I guess...
I mean can't sit near the car all the time.
