Hi,

Glad to be a part of this lovely on-line community, I am a long time reader and first time poster here. I am Waqas from Karachi :)

I have two DSL connections;

1) LinkDotNet 2Mbps (I hope i wrote it correctly ;)) connected to a DLink WiFi router (DSL-2640U)
2) PTCL 2Mbps connected to the standard PTCL (non WiFi) router

I have these two connections as once or twice a month I get a disconnection(down time) on LDN or PTCL so I switch to the one that is on-line (yes, I am paying for two 'just to be on-line all the time')

Question;

What I want to do is somehow connect my PTCL router (via its LAN) to my LDN WiFi router (via LAN) so that both connections can work simultaneously, is this possible? will the speed be bumped as well? if this is NOT possible is there a way I connect the PTCL router to my LDN WiFi router so that when LDN is down I can use PTCL instead, so I do not have to switch routers all this time?

Thanks in advance to the members,

Looking forward...

This is indeed very interesting and makes sense. If you are paying for two dsl lines, you would want to combine the two to get higher speeds.

Okay, I know there are equipment out there which does this kind of stuff, but that is expensive hardware and usually only ISPs need that kind of gear. There is one residential grade product which is exactly what you need:

http://www.draytek.c...r3300vplus.html
but its too expensive for you, I guess. Its about 600 dollars. And most probably not available in Khi.

There should be some software solutions available which do load balancing but that is not what you are looking for. You need a software to do this in level 4 of ISO protocol and definitely a second Lan card. Go and buy a second NIC i.e. lan card first and foremost, they are dirt cheap. You can find some good ones from old machines for 200 Rs easily.

You can use a software called surfdoubler. You can try to maneuver it to do what you need. I will see if I can find something else for you.

Post in this thread if you find some thing.. ya ?

Cheers

This is not what he needs, a load balancer effectively senses which of the lines have lowest congestion and uses that one to communicate. Ineffect you will still be using only one connection at a time.

You Need Load Balancing Router (DUAL WAN Router)

Cheap Option : Buy any Tomato or DDwrt compatible customizable DD-wrt routers. Most probably Linksys E2000 (Watch this video -> E2000 Dual Wan DD-WRT. This guy has given failsafe scripts for it). I was using this solution 6 months back, but had given it to my younger brother :P

Expensive Option : Buy any TP-Link or Cisco router (hugh ones). They usually cost around more than Rs.15000
