I'm seriously thinking of catching up on my reading and the rave reviews of the Kindle Fire and re-kindled a fire (pun intended) in my heart. I'm hesitant because the Kindle comes with free data connectivity through AT&T in the US and I am just wondering if it may not work as it ought to, once brought here to Pakistan. Any thoughts?

Kindle fire is mostly tied with Amazon content services which do not work in Pakistan. Also if you are interested in buying a device for reading ebooks then its better to go for Kindle Reader or Nook Simple Touch.

it will work, but you're limited to app available in the amazon app store. so by no means is the device a full android tablet, i recommend you get a used ipad1, which should cost around 18-20k. or wait a couple of months the price will no doubt drop once the ipad3 is released.

For reading kindle fire is not very good and also the battery time is not good. I am using kindle keyboard and it is very good and battery last for me more than 1 month. I recommend kindle keyboard or the kindle touch.

I would think the kindle may not work very well in pakistan because of its WIFI only aspect and you can only download books in it online to read, you cannot use a usb stick for anything, neither is there another way to transfer files etc.

Kindle fire is a flop product in camparison to recent android tablets. Buy a cheap teblet or used Ipad for reading, that is a best buy. Don't be impressed by kindle advertisement on amazon.

Its a best seller in US and has more than 50% of the US market. None of the Android tablet has been able to do that uptill now. Its specifically designed for the US market, so don't just label something as flop if it doesn't work in Pakistan.

The Kindle Fire will work because of this very reason - it has access to the internet!

People have managed to install the Google apps on the Kindle fire (there are reasons why it's not included on the tab itself - you can read more on that online) and get access to the Android Market - so problem solved!

I don't know if Amazon's services will work in Pakistan or not - but I wouldn't suspect why they shouldn't. Yeah, perhaps if you're going to buy something online there might be some problems, but not otherwise... it's just a logical guess.

I have owned Kindle Fire and have used it in Pakistan. There is no reason that it wouldn't work here. It is connected to the internet and you can download stuff to it. Regarding Amazon content, there are 'jugaars' which you can do and you can still purchase books from Amazon. Else, there are quite a few epubs and mobis for interesting books around.

Recommending it - I would not if using for book reading. It is a full tablet, but hardware not good enough to be a full tablet. Having other apps installed (Facebook, Games etc) will distract from book reading, and even those apps wouldn't perform well. For the very reason, I sold it off within 1.5 months of owning it.

For books, I'd recommend Kindle (sada wala). Very cheap and a long battery life.

Well brother, we are sitting in pakistan and if not of pakistan we must talk of world market. Kindle fire share is only 4 % in 1st Quat 2012 and is behind both Apple Ipad and Samsung Tabs. Its world share was 16 % in last Q 2011 which has now dropped to only 4 %. You can google reason for this drop. Price concious ppl are attracted by low price, worhty to buy a used Ipad or Samsung Tab- that will last longer.

Pl. check this link.

I was only wondering if it would work or not because in the US the selling price includes a lifetime data subscription which is tied up with AT&T, which made me wonder if for any reason the device may not work with other connections like wi-fi. I have also heard many good things about it but I appreciate all the feedback here, thanks guys.
