Hi, I used to have this dell laptop: http://www.dell.com/.../p/xps-m1330/pd
I got this around 3 years ago... and it's now dead.

I've been researching and I've come down to these 3 options:

1) HP Probook 4530s

2) HP Pavilion G6

3) Dell N5110

What do you think?
They're all about 50,000 rupees which is my budget, more or less.

Whatever is available in pak, Dell is the best crap. Go for it.

I have a model of the Dell N5110...it's pretty good for the price (at least it was a year ago).

Had some issues getting the drivers to work initially but it's been pretty smooth sailing since then.

Wow that's surprising. I used to have a Dell and I had a lot of issues with it. My brother has an HP and it's still going strong. I thought HP was stronger than Dell. That might be because of how we used them though. Guess I'll have to go to Hafeez Center and check them both out firsthand. Thanks everyone

Get HP. The Probook is much more sturdily built than the G6 series.

Dell machines available locally have crappy finish and material quality. They are like those bottle-cap-roof Mehrans. Ubiquitous but not necessarily good or long lasting. Their after sales support *might* be better since they have direct presence in Pakistan. I have no personal experience of dealing with them.For HP, after sales support is provided by Mushko, New Horizon, etc. I have dealt with Mushko and they are quite good though they take their sweet time.

Mushko? They are a joke. Every thing that fails is "burnt" and "no warranty for this". While in Dubai, they just replace it. I had to send one of my laptops with a failed mobo to dubai - with lots of extra charges and some favors to get it replaced.

P.S. too many issues with g6 and probook series. But then again, others have their own issues too. So you would just be trying your luck with anything you buy in Pakistan. Warranty does NOT really exist here. Heck, I would rather buy an Acer next time.

Agreed. I've been using Probook since 6-7 months and no issues so far Mashallah. For normal usage its more than enough and it does not heat up after running for longer periods. But may be its just my experience according to my usage, can't say about others.

I am using HP 4530S for a couple of months now and its running fine. Although its a bit too bulky for my taste. No heating problems and keyboard is nice as well. What i gather is that its basically for office professional and home desktop replacement use. Not for carrying it around.
